Post the “Great Reshuffle,” a phase during the pandemic wherein working professionals changed their job profiles overnight, interestingly, the trend is still persistent. By job change, we don’t mean moving from one department to another but transitioning into a completely new industry.

Such a choice is often an amalgamation of various reasons like a toxic work environment, layoffs, or lack of growth opportunities. However, practically the motive behind such metamorphosis must be backed by satisfaction, flexibility, purpose, or identity; only then will the change be impactful.

Hence, one must consider certain factors before deciding the dynamical change to measure the aspects of the “Life Wheel.” These factors vary from Financial Status to Physical Health, Stress Levels, to Passion for Work, among others. Therefore, you must consider changing your profession only if you have a high score on the life wheel—that too with robust planning and taking one step at a time.

Looking at any professional transition only when you have a solid list of defined career paths is recommended. Also, it is imperative to understand that your life wheel is unique to one’s situation, don’t compare it with others.

Start your journey by narrowing down 5-10 job roles in 10-15 different companies, then work on your skills to get the desired role. Next, opt for one of these tiers- a dream role in the best company, an ideal or satisfactory one in a reputable firm, or picking up quick opportunities. The key here is never to let anything jeopardize your mental health under any circumstances. Lastly, analyze the fringe map & calculate the transition intensity for any career move, whether simple, modern, or complex.
